Italian cuisine: la dolce vita on your plate

Bella Italiaaaaa, ti amo! Italian cuisine is loved all over the world, the culinary passion and family cosiness radiate from it. These southern dishes combine authenticity with local, fresh ingredients and above all pure flavors. Sun-ripened tomatoes, creamy cheeses, fragrant basil, fresh citrus fruits, easy pasta recipes, ... that's amore!

La dolce vita on your plate, that’s real enjoyment for me. From savory aperitivo and antipasti to sweet dolci, the Italian cuisine has it all and is so much more than just pasta or pizza. Mediterranean food is not only delicious but also healthy thanks to a good mix of: olive oil, plenty of vegetables and fruits, dairy products, nuts, fish… I’m happy to share my favorite Italian inspirations and classics with a surprising twist. Buon appetito!

My absolute must-haves when in Italy:

  1. Parmigiano Reggiano DOP (aged Parmesan cheese)
  2. Bottarga or dried fish roe is delicious on pasta or burrata
  3. 00 flour for making fresh pasta
  4. Arbequino olive oil is the numero uno among all oils
  5. Aged balsamic vinegar: aceto Balsamico de Modena DOP
  6. The lemons from Amalfi are really the best

When I come home, I am really glad I dragged all this deliciousness along like a pack mule! ;p

Aperitivo: the most delicious Italian snacks

Aperitivo, a flavorful tradition in Italy: A glass of vino rosso with the tastiest Italian snacks, that’s the ideal start to a long dinner. Enjoy!

3x homemade focaccia to drool over

Focaccia is an Italian flatbread, the dough is somewhat similar to pizza dough but thicker and extra flavored with herbs and toppings like rosemary, sage, olives, and sun-dried tomatoes. Really delicious! For the basic dough, you need flour, dry yeast, water, salt, and olive oil. The longer you let the dough rest before baking, the better. I go for at least 1 night in the fridge. Vary as you wish with the toppings! My favorite is this mortadella sandwich or try the trending focaccia cacio e pepe!

Southern salads full of love

Packed with vitamins and crispy flavor enhancers and fresh dressings, these generous salads instantly make you happy and bring the sun to your plate. Italian cheeses, such as mozzarella or creamy burrata, complete your salad! Roast nuts or Italian ham for extra crunch. Fresh pesto is also very handy to have at home, you only need a few ingredients for it. Whether you're going for a quick lunch, a hearty meal, or an extra side dish: with these salads, you always score!

My favorite Italian classics

From authentic spaghetti al ragù with fresh pasta to tender ossobuco and creamy risotto. These Italian classics are enjoyed worldwide by young and old alike. I finally dared to make homemade gnocchi with tomato sauce and sage, soooo good and not so difficult. Just add a Southern tune, a checkered tablecloth, and a candle... you feel like you're in la bella Italia!

Delicious Italian pasta

When you think of Italy, you immediately think of delicious pastas: penne, fusilli, farfalle, rigatoni, etc. You can endlessly vary with different types of pasta, well-seasoned sauces, a variety of vegetables, and of course a generous portion of cheese on top. I like it al dente!

Lasagna, lazy comfort food

Lasagna, that's feel good food and really super easy. Just make layers of tomato or bolognese sauce, pasta sheets, and creamy cheese. I also like to add extra vegetables to it!

Italian dishes with an original twist

The Italian cuisine is a real flavor bomb where you can endlessly vary with local ingredients and seasonal vegetables, so go all out with these surprising dishes!
