10min + 25min in the oven

Easy

For those who like to sprinkle that little extra on their soup, salad, or breakfast, these two toppings are real flavor bombs. The savory variant is a spicy, roasted nut mix that goes with just about any bowl of soup or fresh lunch salad. The sweet version is perfect for yogurt, pudding, pancakes or as a crunchy touch on a cheese platter. And that combination of cardamom and orange? Absolutely wild!

Preparation method

How do you make this?

Preheat the oven to 130°C (fan).

Briefly roast the spices of the savory topping in a dry pan. Coarsely grind in a mortar and add to the savory mix.

Mix the ingredients of the chosen topping in a bowl.

Spread the mixtures evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Roast in the oven for 30 minutes. Toss halfway through. Keep a close eye on it: every oven is different.

Let cool completely and store in an airtight jar in a dry place.

Tips

  • If your oven is large enough, roast both toppings at the same time on separate baking trays.
  • Add the sweet topping to a fruity salad with blue cheese or goat cheese for a surprising combo.
  • Make larger quantities at once and store in separate jars.
  • Add a pinch of salt to the savory mix for extra punch.
  • The sweet mix also goes well on baked apple or pear for dessert.
