50 g brown sugar or extra brown sugar
1 tsp lemon juice

Preparation method

How do you make this?

Soaking raisins: Let the raisins soak in the rum for a few hours for extra flavor. Then squeeze them out.

Preheat oven: Preheat the oven to 180 °C.

Making the crumble: In a large bowl, mix the flour with the brown sugar. Rub the butter into the mixture until you get crumbs. Add a pinch of salt and a hint of star anise or cardamom for extra aroma.

Preparing the apple filling: Grease a baking dish with butter. Evenly distribute the apple cubes over the dish and sprinkle with brown sugar, lemon juice, and grated ginger. Sprinkle the soaked raisins on top. Optionally, add a knob of butter for a creamier filling.

Applying the crumble: Cover the apples with the crumble dough. Make sure the crumble is evenly spread everywhere.

Baking: Bake the crumble for 25 minutes in the oven until the top is golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.

Tips

Serve the apple crumble warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a spoon whipped cream. Combine with an espresso for the perfect ending.
